Trent
Jones designed Kiahuna Golf Course is on-site; The PGA Grand Slam course, Poipu Bay
Golf is less than 3 miles distance from
Hawaiian Hibiscus Home. The Kalaheo,Kukuiolono Golf course with its
heavenly views (even if you do not play golf
just the views are worth a visit) and amazingly
cheap rates is a ten minutes drive away. The Kukui Grove golf course and The Lagoons golf
courses are in Lihue ~ 20 min drive. If you
want more variety there is the Wailua Municipal
golf course (very cheap) and The Princeville
golf courses all of which are rated among the
best in the USA.
Here is what we
recommend about the golf courses nearby the Hawaiian Hibiscis Poipu Kauai Vacation rental Home.
For the golfing enthusiast: (Disclaimer- I am not a golf
player but I like to run on the golf courses and watch
the scenery). Nearby the Hawaiian Hibiscus home there are three golf
courses: Kiahuna (Trent Jones
designed) on site; The Poipu Bay (Home of PGA grand slam) 2 miles away; and Kukuilono (nine holes only)
about eight to ten miles away.
Each has their
advantages. The Poipu Bay course is simply spectacular
against the Pacific Ocean with the Ha’upu mountain range
in the background. It is also the priciest $185 for a
morning session with decreasing prices for shorter
sessions later in the day. (I have a note at the bottom
of this e-mail from Poipu manager). I love to run on the
course just before sunrise and watch the sunrise from at
the southeast end of the course by the ocean.
Kihauna golf course is a very good golf course for half
the price of Poipu Bay (you don't have to rent a cart)
and the views are as spectacular as the Pipu Bay or
Kukuiolono. Kiahuna Golf voted Kauai Best Golf course 2007 and is known for having the fastest greens on Kauai.
My favorite is Kukuilono (remember that I am not a golf
player) a local public course in Kalaeho it costs about
$ 7 to play and another $6-8 for a cart. These low
prices are thanks to the original donor of the land Mr.
McBride, who wanted the locals to have access to cheap
golf. The greens are not as well kept as the Poipu Bay
course or Kihauna but the scenery rivals the best golf
courses anywhere. You have 270 degree views of the
mountains and the Pacific Ocean under your feet. If you
are there in the afternoon and want to watch the sunset
or have a picnic after your round of nine holes you will
not regret it. I think you can get a monthly card for
only $20.
If you are willing to drive twelve to thirteen miles to
Lihue, there is the Lagoons golf course which is also by
the ocean and pricey like the Poipu Bay. There is also a
Kukui Grove golf course but have not been on the course
and you do not have the Ocean as a background. Another
eight miles will get you to Wailua golf county golf
course which is one of the best public golf courses by
the Wailua Bay, the greens fees are only ~$20. Twenty
miles more takes you the Princeville Golf courses all
three of which are spectacular (especially the Prince)
and just as Pricey as the Poipu Bay course.
So all in all you have nine (two of which are public)
golf courses all of which are very scenic and at four of
which at one time or other have been hosts to PGA tour.
